1 Peter 2:7-8

“Unto you, therefore— who believe, he is precious [valuable in dignity]: but, unto them who are disobedient [willfully and perversely, will not obey, unbelieving], the stone [milling stone (that’s for refinement)] in which the builders [a house builder, constructing and confirming, edifying] disallowed [disapproved of, and repudiated— refuse to accept or be associated with, deny the truth, refuse to fulfill or discharge and obligation (cast off, disown, divorce) —rejected]...

The same has been made the head (lead) of the corner [angle], and a stone [mill stone (refining stone)] of stumbling [to stub on— occasion of apostasy (abandonment of a belief) and offense], and a rock [mass] of offense [a trap, snare— cause of displeasure, stumble and fall over]— even to them which stumble [strike and surge against, stub on, trip up at and dash oneself] at the word [subject of discourse, reasoning, computations— divine expression of Christ, and his speech or Word]— being disobedient [willfully and perversely, will not obey, unbelieving]: whereunto also they were appointed [placed and postured].”

God is attempting to raise us, like children of his (we are the children of God, aren’t we?); but it is difficult if we are going to kick against his proddings, his pricks to our heart and mind.

If we are going to stand seared, and in opposition to what he is telling us from his truth of scriptures, and his commands of how to operate our person— by the example and lead of God holy— then we are going to STUMBLE, and BE PUMMELED BY HIM, the Rock of stumbling, or millstone of stumbling: the truth will crush us.

_________

Matthew 21:44

“And whosoever shall fall on this stone [millstone] —shall be broken [shattered into smaller pieces, refined down, reduced]: but on whosoever— it shall fall— it will grind him [winnow and triturate— chew him up finely] to powder (destroy entirely).”

_________

If we fall upon, or be laid upon the Rock, the sure foundation— we WILL BE refined; but, if Christ, the truth falls on us, or is laid upon us— he is weighty— and we will be crushed and destroyed entirely.

One is working with him, as he is the Foundation we are falling on, or building upon; but the other is the refusal of the truth, to agree and adhere to his lead and counsels, his fathering— and the truth will not set us free, for it was rejected— and that will utterly destroy us, for we walk in darkness, and as an adversary → a hostile opponent to the truth, Christ: we will be ground to powder.

Refined— is to be polished,

as much as reduced;

to walk in a refined nature

is to walk elegantly.

Romans 14:13

“Let us not therefore judge [condemn and punish, call into question, sentence in thinking] one another anymore: but judge [condemn and punish, call into question, sentence in thinking] this rather— that no man put a stumbling block [an occasion of apostasy (abandonment of belief), to stub upon in offenses], or an occasion to fall [in a scandal, a trap, a snare, an offensive thing that causes occasion of stumbling]— in his brother's way.”

Proverbs 26:20

“Where no wood (or fuel) is, there the fire [burning, fiery, flaming hot] goes out [expires, is extinguished, figuratively anger is quenched]: so, where there is no talebearer— the strife [contesting, quarreling, brawling contention and discord] ceases [subsides and is calmed and quiet].”

Proverbs 26:22— repeats Proverbs 18:8, word for word; when God notes things twice— we ought take heed.

Proverbs 16:28

“A froward [perverse and fraudulent] man sows [sends forth, conducts earnestly, grows, spreads and stretches forth] strife [contentions and quarrels, discord]: and a whisperer [slanderer, rolling to pieces, a talebearer] separates [breaks up, disperses, divides, scatters and severs asunder] chief [familiar, gently, tame, notable] friends.”

Contention

__________________________

Contention— heated disagreement, an assertion— especially one maintained in an argument; root definition— late Middle English: from Latin contentio(n- ), from contendere ‘strive with’ (see contend).

G3948 – Contention

Greek: παροξυσμός

Transliteration: paroxusmos

Pronunciation: par-ox-oos-mos'

Definition: From G3947 (paroxysm);

incitement (to good) or dispute (in anger): - contention provoke unto.

Argument— an exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one, a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong; root definition— Middle English, ‘process of reasoning’: via Old French from Latin argumentum, from arguere ‘make clear, prove, accuse’.

Contend— struggle to surmount, assert something as a position— in an argument; root definition— late Middle English, ‘compete for something’: from Old French contendre or Latin contendere, from con- ‘with’ + tendere ‘stretch, strive’.

Strive— make great efforts to achieve or obtain something, struggle— or fight vigorously for; root definition— Middle English: shortening of Old French estriver ; related to estrif ‘strife’.

Genesis 6:3

“And the LORD said— My spirit shall not always strive [rule, judge, umpire, strive— as at law with, execute judgment unto, minister and plead the cause] with man, for he is also flesh [stray in sin, deceived, err, gone astray ignorantly]…”

Do we understand he is saying he will not always be so long suffering and patient with man, concerning being in ‘competition’ with his flesh nature— making great efforts to struggle vigorously and fight spiritually for him to come into agreement with God?

Do we understand God is asking us to come into agreement with his nature and ways— so we will not strive against our brethren, but instead— walk in harmony, humbly with the family members?

Acts 15:39-40

“And the contention [inciting of dispute— in anger and provocation] was so sharp between them— that they departed asunder [separated and was rent apart] —one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; 40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed…”

Proverbs 13:10

“Only by pride [arrogance and presumptions] comes contention [quarrel, debate and strife]: but with the well advised [to deliberate and resolve, guide and purpose]— wisdom [good sense].”

Proverbs 18:6

“A fool’s [stupid or silly one’s] lips [language, speech, talk and vain words] enter into contention [adversity, an adversary (accuser of brethren), strife and suit against]— and his mouth [blowing speech, portion, sentence, talk] calls for strokes [blows, stripes].”

Ought against a brother

______________________________________

Dictionary definition of Ought— used to indicate duty or correctness, typically when criticizing someone's actions; root definition— Old English āhte, past tense of āgan ‘owe’ (see owe).

Owe— have an obligation to repay, or receive; root definition— Old English āgan ‘own, have it as an obligation’, of Germanic origin; from an Indo-European root shared by Sanskrit īs ‘possess, own’.

(Compare with ought)

Matthew 18:15-17

“Moreover if your brother shall trespass [miss the mark] against you— go and tell [admonish, convict, convince and reprove] him his fault, between you and him— ALONE [solely]: IF he shall hear [give audience and understand] you— you have gained [won] your brother.

16 But IF he will not hear you, then take with you one or two more— that in the mouth of two or three witnesses, so that every word may be established.

17 And IF he shall neglect to hear them— tell it unto the church: but IF he neglect to hear the church— let him be unto you as a heathen man (of another nation and tribe— essentially, a stranger) and a publican.”

Have we sought to resolve and deal with disputes within the House of God— the family of God— as he himself has commanded us to?

And I reiterate— ‘commanded,’ or instructed us to do??

Or— are we standing against the truth, rejecting it, refusing to adhere to it (him, he is the truth), kicking against the pricks, getting pummeled by the millstone— the stumbling stone— and getting pulverized into dust?

Because the choice is ours— pulverized into dust and powder by rejecting him and the truth, as we watch the results play out of our rebellion choices…

Or— coming into agreement with him to be refined, by the Refiner’s fires, the cornerstone Rock of our foundation— adhering to his counsel and commands, and doing things obediently, and in unity with his Spirit?

Because the results are STUNNING— either way.
